Witricity is a wireless charging technology development company.
They are developing variety wireless charging technologies from the smartwatch charger to the EV charger.
In 2015, they were a brand new startup company and they wanted to introduce their capabilities to the world through CES. The Amélie was purely focused and designed on this purpose.
Define design direction.
Witricity wanted to introduce two different capabilities through CES. One was a smartwatch wireless charging technology that charges any smartwatches faster than other wireless chargers. The other one was a desktop charger that can charges multiple devices at the same time.
Before defining design goal, the team was thinking about the main purpose of the project. The main purpose of this project was a sucessful showcase at the CES introducing Witricity wireless charging technologies to appeal potential investors. To achieve this goal, it should visually catch people’s eye effectively through its form and aesthetics. There are a lot of new products with advanced technologies at the CES, so it is the most important to catch people’s eyes among those competitions.
Team was explored variety inspiration images and consumer electronics trends that can effectively catch people’s eye.
Exploring variety aesthetics that can stimulate people’s curiosity.
Team was setted design goal as stimulating curiosity through product design itself after inspiration images and trend research was explored. This new wireless chargers should be standing out to catch people’s eyes among competitions at CES. To easily achieve this, stimulating curiosity through product design itself will be effectively gathering audiences.
Design development was proceeded focusing on how to aesthetically stimulate people’s curiosity through product design itself and team explored variety possibilities to achieve this goal.

The Amélie was designed with non-electronics looking unexpected materials to stimulate your curiosity.
Both smartwatch charger and desktop charger’s wooden bases are appealing as lifestyle related products than high tech electronics. This unexpected use of material can easily stimulate audience’s curiosity through material itself differentiate than any other consumer electronics.
Main charging surface of desktop charger was designed with thin accent colored elastomeric layer on the top with non-slippery patterns. These design elements are intuitively communicating charging area as well as supporting stable sitting of devices while they are charging. This design elements are designed per its purpose, but it also easily stimulate audience’s curiosity through unexpected color and material.
The Amélie’s concise and minimal overall form is inducing audiences eyes to focus more on its color and materials.
The Amélie is attractive friend of your daily belongings that is improving your daily life experience of essential belongings.
